Or debit cards or credit cards or travellers checks etc? Thanks.

I'll say take credit cards and cash. HK is pretty safe in general so carry cash for small spending. Credit cards are widely accepted in shops and restaurants for purchases as little as HKD100 (eqv. USD13) Though not all fast food shops and hawkers take credit cards.

You didn't say where you are coming from but you may consider converting your local currency (USD, euro etc) into HKD cash at your local home bank. It is probably cheaper than using a money changer in a tourist area, and of course it will give you cash-in-hand when you land which is always good.

If you are in a smaller town your local bank will not have Hong Kong Dollar cash on hand, but they generally can order it from head office if you are willing to wait.
