Where to Stay / Hotels in Hong Kong

Just like you, I very rarely stay in any hotels in Hong Kong because I live here.  Except the airport hotel which is a great place to stay the night before if you have an early flight leaving at 6AM!  But I can tell you what type of hotels they are and whether they are really as conveniently located as they claim.  Is the surrounding environment nice?  Is it a resort for locals or hotel for business conferences and etc.

There are three major areas in Hong Kong which you may want to consider:

1. Hong Kong Island - more travelers'  facilities than other districts
2. Kowloon - travelers' facilities around central business districts
3. New Territories including outlying islands - mostly residential and industrial.

 #1 InterContinental Hong Kong from $250 USD for a superior plaza view (which would be a shame to miss the great view of Victoria Harbour you can get from the other side of the building, but harbour view is an extra $50!)

Hostels

There are also guesthouses and hostels in Hong Kong.  But care has to be taken with the guesthouses as many of them are real small and possibly even not safe.

The Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association can give you good information on the three major.  However they are a LONG way away from anywhere.

Or you may turn to the Lonely Planet Guide for bargain hostels.  But do note that in Hong Kong hostels are not necessarily a great deal.  Sometimes a cheap hotel can be better.
