2007 Bun Festival Cheung Chau

Here are a few pictures of the preparations for the Bun Festival this year, 2007.  The preparations are in two sections, the traditional and the modern.  All the traditional work is going on as normal next to the temple, while on the football field next to it the government sponsored "Bun Tower" -- aka the Metal Rocket -- is being prepared for the climbers.

Paper models of the gods are being assembled

Buns are threaded on string before being placed on the towers

Time trials climbing the fake metal "bun tower" put up by the government

Completely untraditional and totally missing the point of the Bun Festival!
