Posted: Mon May 13, 2013 4:48 pm    Post subject: Business registration certificate Hong Kong / Business registration certificate Hong Kong How do you get a "Business Registration Certificate" in Hong Kong? The bank tells me I kneed to get one before I can register a business account. But I'm rarely actually in Hong Kong while I'm setting up this new project so can I do it remotely by mail or email? Thanks a million for any help. I wouldn't believe how hard it is to get a business off the ground in Asia, and I thought red tape was terrible back home!

Posted: Thu May 16, 2013 2:12 pm    Post subject: / Business registration certificate Hong Kong Yes it is true that all businesses operating in HK need a Business Registration Certificate, or BR Cert. These are issued by the Inland Revenue Department or IRD of the Hong Kong Government. There is also a Company Registration Certificate that is issued by the Company Register. However you can get both using one application form. More information is available here: https://www.eregistry.gov.hk/ In practice though it is often easier to have a Hong Kong Agent do this for you, make sure you are using an agent who is registered directly with the department. There is a list of such agents on their web site.
