Fake monks and nunsIn 2002, fake monks were found around touristy areas. They mostly dress up in yellowish brown Buddhist monk outfit with a cloth bag on the shoulder. Some of them stand by the road and pretend to pray but can't help peeking and lurking. Some go to each table in the restaurant to ask for money. Some simply follow the targets and ask for money. Just ignore them and keep walking. A real Buddhist monk will stand there praying quietly and they won't ask directly for money. But in practice you won't find many real road-side monks, those are mostly in Thailand, not Hong Kong.
