Hong Kong 2010 Festival Calendar

It is still some way to 2010 so not all the dates are yet set and may change, however it is possible to calculate most of them which is what has been done here.  The calendar will be updated when more information is available.

The first day of January 1 Jan Friday - a long weekend!
Day before Chinese New Year 13 Feb Sat - A public holiday probably but of course most people don't work on Sat anyway.
Chinese New Year of Tiger 14 Feb Sunday
The second day of the Chinese Lunar New Year 15 Feb Monday
The third day of the Lunar New Year 16 Feb Tuesday
Spring Lantern Festival/Chinese Valentine's Day 28 Feb Sunday - this is not a public holiday
Good Friday 2 Apr Friday
Easter Monday and Ching Ming Festival 5 Apr Monday
May day 1 May Sat
Birthday of Tin Hau
Buddha’s Birthday and Cheung Chau Bun Festival 21 May Friday - long weekend!
Tuen Ng /  Dragon Boat Festival 16 June Wed
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day 1 July Thursday
Kwan Tai / Kwan Gon's Birthday

Chinese Ghosts Festival / Yue Laan
Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival / Moon Festival 22 Sep Wed - the festival is on this night which is not a public holiday
The day following the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival 23 Sep Thu - this is the public holiday the day after the festival for people to sleep in!
National Day 1 Oct Friday - long weekend!
Confucius' Birthday
Chung Yeung Festival 16 Oct Sat
Christmas Day 25 Dec Sat
Boxing Day 26 Dec Sun
The first week-day after Christmas day 27 Dec Mon - a public holiday in compensation for boxing day being on a Sunday

Notes: Gazetted holidays, e.g. the official public holidays decided by the Government of Hong Kong, have not yet been published for 2010; but it is possible to calculate most of them following the rules laid out in the Ordinance.  Similarly the Chinese Festivals which depend on the Lunar Calendar can also be calculated in advance which I have done here where possible.
