I've been seeing on the news that this is a problem in Hong Kong.

Is it really an issue or is it the media just going crazy again?

I mean does it imply there are no public toilets to be used? And is Hong Kong an unhygienic city to visit? I thought it was all clean and modern with subway trains and skyscrapers. but if there is kids wee and poo on the street then maybe we'll reconsider!

There was a bit of a scandal about this recently, but it really isn't a common occurrence. In fact the whole point of the complaints in the media, and the concern of the public, that this is a practice not at all common among Hong Kong residents, but apparently more so in those from the Mainland of China.

In practice if you visit Hong Kong you will never see this, certainly not in business, shopping or tourist attractions.

Hong Kong is a very clean city, that's why one incidence of a child urinating in public was seen as very offensive.
