The underground railway system in Hong Kong is called the MTR, for Mass Transit Railway. The MTR corporation also runs many above ground rail systems having merged some years ago with the other rail companies of Hong Kong.
It is generally cheap to travel by rail in Hong Kong, in fact all public transport is quite cheap compared to other countries, with the exception of taxis which are similar to other countries.
There are no zones in the system, instead you pay according to distance. either buying one ticket at a time, or having a stored value card which is called an Octopus. The prices are the same either way and the Octopus is much more convenient so highly recommended.
The MTR system does not go to some of the places you mention such as Victoria Peak or Stanley market. For those you'll be taking buses, or in the case of the peak you'll find the Peak Tram to be a great experience. |
