Does Hong Kong have a withholding tax? My accountant says there should be but I can't find nothing about it on that there government tax page. It's all confusing and I sure as hell don't wannta pay more tax than I gotta. Darn government big enough as it is without feeding off of us poor working slobs.

So do the rest of you get withholding tax or you just pay what it gets calculated at?

I am not a tax lawyer, an accountant, nor do I play one on TV. Smile

Having said that I do recognise this problem as it has happened to me also. The accountants in the US are presuming they have to withhold part of payments owed to you, in case they need to give them directly to the tax department.

This does not apply to Hong Kong. Here the tax department, properly the IRD or Inland Revenue Department, only taxes people on their income directly. Not via their employeer or business partners.

If you owe tax to the Hong Kong government then you have to report it directly to them, and not wait for them to ask!
