Is it possible to do a dinner cruise on the night of the Special Administrative Region Establishment Day to view the fireworks? What time would the fireworks start?

Jerry I don't have a personal recommendation on this one but I can point you to two of the major dinner cruise options in Hong Kong:

http://www.watertours.com.hk/

http://www.cruise.com.hk/

I would guess they have to do something special for the fireworks, but I can't find out any info at the moment.

What I can tell you is that while the first company uses fake "Chinese junk" boats, which are medium sized and purpose built for this, the second company uses converted car transporters. Now while that might sound a bit grim the advantage of course is that it is a much larger vessel and will give you a more stable ride.

I'm going to look into this a bit more and write up an article regarding the options, but that's what I can tell you right now.

The fireworks normally start at 8PM but I haven't seen the announcement for this year.

Hope this helps somewhat.

I've been talking to various cruise companies but it's really strange how hard it is to find out more solid info about this. The basic root problem is that the government has not yet published details of the time of the show, so some of the cruise companies are waiting for that before they announce their offers.

A mistake I think, they should announce provisionally and would get some pre-bookings! Anyway what I have so far is:

www.aqua.com.hk : They are doing a cruise but don't know when or how much. That's the prettiest fake-junk in the harbour, run by a restaurant group so guess the food will be top notch.

www.starferry.com.hk : They don't know. Still waiting for announcement.

www.cruise.com.hk : Firework and Dinner cruise is HK$550/adult and $450 for kids (2-10). Boarding at either North Point (HK Island) or Hong Hum (Kowloon side). Buffet dinner, live band, sightseeing of the harbour, then stop to see the fireworks. They are taking reservations now via email: reserve [at] cruise.com.hk

www.watertours.com.hk : A division of WingOn Travel; no details yet but expecting pricing to be similar to last time which would be HK$800/person for dinner and fireworks. They can take provisional reservations: sulianho [at] wingontravel.com

So far that's what I've got, it's pretty disappointing but I'll update when someone finally gives me more info!
