Can you give me the location and information about the British Consulate in Hong Kong, I understand I am supposed to register with them if I stay in the colony longer than 6 months. What services do the actually provide? I'll be needing some assistance I'm sure.

The British Consulate in Hong Kong is in a custom built building in Admiralty near to the High Court, and opposite the Conrad Hotel. The official Address is 1 Supreme Court Rd, Admiralty, Hong Kong and they can be reached on the phone at 2901 3000.

They state their mission to be:

Quote:
We develop and maintain the important and longstanding relationship between the UK and Hong Kong. We deal with a wide range of political, commercial and economic questions of interest to the UK and Hong Kong and provide high-quality consular and passport services.

But I cannot find any requirement to register with them. As you will be well aware Hong Kong is no longer a British Crown Colony but a Special Administrative Region of China. Hence we tend to call it "the region" or just "Hong Kong", even before the official handover in 1997 the term "colony" was rarely used.

There is a list of things the Consulate does on their web site. See:

I hope that helps.
