Fake monks and nuns
In 2002, fake monks were found around touristy areas. They mostly dress up
in yellowish brown Buddhist monk outfit with a cloth bag on the shoulder.
Some of them stand by the road and pretend to pray but can't help peeking and
lurking. Some go to each table in the restaurant to ask for money. Some simply follow the targets and ask for money. Just
ignore them and keep walking.
A real Buddhist monk will stand there praying quietly and they won't ask
directly for money. But in
practice you won't find many real road-side monks, those are mostly in Thailand,
not Hong Kong.
In Nov 2003, fake nuns were still seen.
