Home > Sightseeing > Districts > Hong Kong Island > South Side > Aberdeen AberdeenNamed after the famous place in Scotland this is a small district on the south side of Hong Kong island which is sometimes called "Aberdeen Fishing Village" because it does indeed have a fishing fleet, and it was originally a village. Most famous for the Jumbo Floating restaurant which is built on a stationary barge in the harbour it is also an easy place to go and see a little of the floating fisherman life which used to be so important in Hong Kong. You won't see any traditional junks though, all the commercial fisherman use big boats which are modeled after the ones used by the Scottish Aberdeen fisherman! It is also home to the Aberdeen Boat Club which is a members only boating club, and is next to the Aberdeen Marina Club which is an even fancier members only club. Nearby is also the back entrance to Ocean Park, in fact if you take the free shuttle bus 888 from one side of Ocean Park to the other you end up passing those two clubs. View of the Jumbo Floating Restaurant from the Aberdeen Boat Club showing high-rise buildings in the background and expensive yachts (moored at the Aberdeen Marina) in the foreground. Across the bridge from Aberdeen is Ap Lei Chau, a small residental island which today is most famous for the Horizon Plaza shopping centre.
