Is it cheaper to buy certain photo from Hong Kong?

I am really interested in the pricing of the following:

Nikon Coolpix P5100/Canon A640
Zeiss/Leica/Swarovski Telescopes + Binoculars
Apple MacBook Pro
Sennheiser Microphones

Thanks for any info.

I can't tell you specific pricing but I would suggest that as in any big town you be careful buying things like this in "tourist areas". It's best to go to mainstream chain shops for a more reputable deal. The two big ones in Hong Kong are Fortress and Broadway. Both have web sites (though not that good) which will give you latest prices.

http://www.fortress.com.hk (after you click through look for the "ENG" button at the top right to switch to English)

http://www.broadway.com.hk/ (all Chinese, but you can see some prices listed -- in HK$ of course)

Don't expect shops here to be enormousely cheaper than US or Europe. Yes you will save some tax, but thats about it. And make sure you won't be taxed when you return to your home country!

I hope that helps.

Yours,
Raymond

Don't forget stanley street -- that's not in Stanley, it's in Central. Lots of pro photo shops there. They are all "ask price" so you do have to be careful but I've got some pro photo stuff there like tripods and such and the price is ok. Well, it is the same as if I had bought it at amazon.com but without the shipping.

Thanks Raymond and Jack too. I guess I had better be well prepared with knowing what the "correct" price is!

I'll check out those web sites though and make some comparisons.

Thanks again.

Mong kok is better but I think you find it hard without speaking Chinese. If you only speak English you may not get the best price.

I don't like Fortress. The customer service is terrible. Now I go to Broadway or Chung Pui at Stanley Street.
