I read that the octopus card is the way to go for public transport. So where do I get it? Can I buy it online like the London Oyster? Please let me know, thanks very much for the informative site.

Cheers, Paul

Paul,

You can buy an Octopus Card at the airport when you arrive. No, you can't get it online.

When you leave Immigration and Customs at the airport and go into the arrival hall there is a circular counter in the center which sells train tickets to the city and you can get a card there.

An interesting point is that you do NOT need to buy a ticket (octopus or otherwise) for the train before you board -- if you take the train without one then you just buy a ticket at the station where you leave the train. That's a good tip if the train is about to leave and there is a queue at the counter. Though of course another train will be along in 12 minutes.

If you are not taking the Airport Express train into town then you can buy an Octopus later at any MTR station, just go to the customer service desk. But in that case you will need the ticket before you get on the train.

I hope that helps.

Yours,
Raymond
