Home > Sightseeing > Districts > Kowloon KowloonKowloon means "nine dragons" -- a very old story says there are 8 hills and each hill has a dragon, plus the emperor is a dragon so there are nine altogether. It is the peninsula jutting out into Victoria harbour and facing Hong Kong Island. You take the famous Star Ferry from Hong Kong island to Kowloon. Or you can take the MTR or a bus. The fact that it is physically a peninsular gave the famous Peninsula Hotel it's name, although it is a bit inland now due to reclamation it was originally very near the sea almost at the tip of the peninsular. When you land you are in the district of Tsim Shau Tsui, this is where most tourists will spend most of their time. |
