According to this site: # http://www.pacificprime.com/countries/hong-kong/index.php trips advice

" Crime is not prevalent on Hong Kong Island , but becomes more frequent as you move through Kowloon and the New Territories . However, most crime in Hong Kong is limited to petty theft".

It is this certain one? My friend spent a time and was witness of two fights in Wan Chai (if they were fights between the caucasians). Also I have heard speak of many aggressions take place.

I don't think there are a lot of cities were you wont' see fights outside of bars late at night! And just because you see a fight doesn't mean the place is "unsafe" for a tourist.

Hong Kong is a pretty safe place -- I'm happy to walk around town at any time of day, ok I look like a local. But even for tourists - if you don't flash your money or do something stupid in a seedy area then you are not going to be in trouble.

The main crime risk is being cheated in tourist shops - not being mugged.

Yours,
Raymond

No big crime for tourists. Though personally I got my wallet stolen on a rainy day. I was walking up a flight of steps to the flyover in Central. It was raining and so everybody was holding a umbrella. Then, somehow I can feel my backpack being touched. By the time I turned round to reach my bag I found that my wallet had disappearred. Iit was too late.

There is not a lot of money in the wallet but it takes time to report to the police so that I can get a new ID card, plus stopping all the credit cards, Octopus Card and replace them all. It probably costs more than the cash I have lost in the wallet.
