at our newly renovated gallery space on Shin Hing Street

Amelia Johnson Contemporary presents FRESH, an exciting exhibition showcasing the work of some of Hong Kong’s best and most promising contemporary artists. The exhibition highlights some of the rising stars of Hong Kong’s contemporary art scene, offering new and experienced collectors alike a timely opportunity to acquaint themselves with this much-neglected sector of Chinese contemporary art. Established artist Chris Lo’s eerily beautiful ceramic works deal with the transformation of violence, depicting industrial clamps and the objects crushed within them. Three upcoming stars of the Hong Kong art scene Ho Sin Tung, Tang Kwok Hin and Elise Lai Yuen-Shan will also be highlighted in this exhibition. All three are students from the prestigious Chinese University of Hong Kong, Ho Sin Tung and Tang Kwok Hin having recently graduated and Elise Lai currently completing the final year of her undergraduate degree. Ho Sin Tung’s mixed media works, collectively entitled The Map of Spain, are subjective maps depicting dreamlike scenarios that are founded on the artist’s interaction with her environment. Tang Kwok Hin uses ready made images taken from miscellaneous sources such as Google, cartoons, wine bottles, beer cans…Seemingly random images are selected and removed from their environments, repositioned in new stage-like settings and then photographed to produce powerful, haunting images. Elise Lai’s delicately coloured painting- based works ostensibly reference daily life, blurring the boundaries between passive observation and voyeurism.
