Hong Kong 2016 Festival Calendar

This will be the Year of the Monkey in the Luna Calendar!  Watch out for plenty of Monkey-business, but the public holidays will still run according to schedule. As an ex British Colony, now part of China, and with a mix of English and Chinese influences the holiday and festival calendar is one of the busiest.

Public Holidays, are those gazzetted by the Hong Kong government and are a day off for schools, banks, offices and so on. Also known as Statuary Holidays they don't effect retail, shops, restaurants or any shopping arcades or malls nor tourist attractions.

The various lunar calendar festivities such as Chinese New Year are on different days of the calendar each year, and in 2016 the CNY falls on the 8th of Feb.  Officially there are three days off, but for many schools and more traditional businesses you'll find that they take more than a week away.
