AsiaWorld Expo

What is Asia World Expo?

AsiaWorld Expo is the phase 1 development of Hong Kong's SkyCity project.  The SkyCity project shares the same idea as Orlando, Florida's airport-Disney-convention-centre concept such that the facilities create business for each other.

Phase 1 - AsiaWorld Expo is expected to open at the end of 2005.  It provides 10 ground level, column-free halls offering over 66,000 square metres of hall space.  The indoor multi-purpose arena with seated capacity for 13,500 people will also make it the biggest indoor arena in Hong Kong.  This exhibition centre is an complement to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai as there is more demand than the HKCEC can meet.

In Jun 2004, 18 months before the AsiaWorld Expo is finished, it already get to host the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006.

The SkyPlaza will be an extension from the Passenger Terminal Building where airline check-in and transport interchange services will be available. Office buildings and a 38,000 sq metres retail and entertainment centre will be developed to cater for exhibition visitors, tourists and locals.  I heard that there will also be a 9-hole golf course nearby for the executives.

The new ferry terminal SkyPier will be built to provide access to the Pearl River Delta for visitors by air.

Transport to AsiaWorld Expo

  • Train - MTR railway and Airport Express Train provide quick access to the expo.  It's a 1 minute ride from the airport and 25 minutes' ride from Central.
  • road - bus and taxi
